We are seeking four counselors for the Nature Adventure Camp and an Assistant Coach for the Basketball
Program
1) Summer 2009 Nature Adventure Camp Counselor
Job Responsibilities:
1. Provide safe supervision and leadership
of 6-12 children in indoor and outdoor settings from June 29-July 11, 2009
2. Implement the goals and objectives described
in the program plan
3. Assist the Camp Directors with preparation and clean-up as necessary
Primary Job Qualifications:
1. Experience in youth leadership; ability to implement progressive discipline policy with appropriate, respectful balance
of firmness and kindness.
2. Must be at least eighteen years of age.
3. Must have a high school diploma or GED,
or demonstrated mastery of basic skills and documented progress towards a diploma or GED.
4. Cultural competence with
respect to diverse demographics, particularly with respect to predominantly African American population
5. Pass a criminal
background check in compliance with all applicable laws and MyCom requirements.
6. Physical ability to walk at least
three miles and maintain the activity level appropriate to the camp, ability to provide emergency physical assistance to campers,
swimming ability.
7. Problem-solving and emergency response abilities.
8. Must be punctual and reliable and have
adequate private or public transportation to ensure punctual arrival at work.
9. Must be able to work Monday-Friday 8:00
am to 4:00 pm for the two weeks of the camp, participate in one staff training day prior to the camp, assist the Directors
with one four-hour set-up session and a two-hour post-camp cleanup session, participate in one additional staff meeting and
the overnight camping trip.
10. Must have a functioning form of communication (email or voice mail enabled land line
or cell phone) to ensure response within 3 hours between the hours of 9 am and 9 pm.
11. Initiative, team spirit, and
ability to model pro-active behavior regarding clean-up and other group responsibilities
12. Other duties as assigned.
Secondary Job Qualifications:
Preference will be given to present or past residents of or youth workers in the target
geographical area, to applicants with a demonstrated record of volunteerism, to applicants with a valid drivers’ license,
proof of insurance, and clean driving record in case of emergency; and/or to applicants skilled in music, crafts, dance, or
the arts.
2) Assistant Basketball Coach
Summer 2009
Job Responsibilities:
1. Provide inspiring,
safe supervision and leadership of high school aged basketball players
2. Assist the head coach with implementing the
goals and objectives described in the program plan.
3. Intervene in risky behaviors and encourage positive engagement
in civil society
Primary Job Qualifications:
1. Provide inspiring, safe supervision and leadership of basketball
players ages 10-19.
2. Implement the goals and objectives described in the program plan
3. Intervene in risky behaviors
and encourage positive engagement in civil society
Primary Job Qualifications:

as appropriate.

to ensure response within 3 hours between the hours of 9:00 am and 9:00 pm.
10. Initiative, team spirit, and ability
to model pro-active behavior regarding clean-up, service, and other group responsibilities.
11. Sufficient physical fitness
to participate in training and conditioning exercises.
12. Other duties as assigned.
